In the blueprint of our group project, I put forward an idea in which the virtual students finish an Excel assignment to further understand the concept and application of inflation. To large extents, the needs of all students could be met under this assignment, partly because this assignment does not require students to be present physically on campus. Some disabled students or those who have emergency or sickness may choose to finish this assignment at any time that they feel convenient. This assignment would last one or two hours. Nor does it require students to participate in a timed competition by finishing it at a specific day.
Another reason why the Excel assignment could somewhat meet the needs of all students is that, like mentioned in the blue print assignment we already submitted, we are more than happy and ready to provide those students who are stuck or need debug with on-time support. In other words, we respect the intellectual differences among different groups of student and expect the success of all students. To those excellent students who are familiar with the concepts of inflation and manipulation of Excel, they may end up finishing this assignment early and getting some feedback or rewards. To those average students who are not, we do NOT ignore them. Rather, like mentioned above, we provide on-time supports through online communication app, such as Slack. According to the Universal Design post, providing timely supports with necessary skills is exactly one of the components under planning for multiple means of representation (Universal Design, 2022).
Inevitably, there have to be some minor barriers that the Excel assignment presents and prevents all students’ successes. One potential barrier may be what if some students do not have Internet access, or Uvic meets some server issues. Again, this Excel assignment is not a timed final exam. Nor is it a competition. As the remedies to these unexpected events, we consider allowing these students to do the Excel assignment on the other days, or allowing them to do it on campus instead.

Hi Lei,
I like your Ideas because it takes into account the different needs and differences of students. By providing online support, you can ensure that every student has the opportunity to complete the assignment successfully. In addition, the idea provides flexibility, allowing students to decide for themselves when to complete assignments, thus accommodating their schedules and other needs.
However, you also mentioned some potential barriers, such as students not having access to the Internet or experiencing server problems. These barriers can impact the student experience and learning outcomes. Therefore, our team needs to consider these barriers and provide appropriate solutions for students.

Hi Lei! It’s a good idea to give students complete an Excel assignment. Interestingly, you won’t give students a specific day to finish it. It may be challenging for students who did not develop metacognitive skills and learning autonomy. They may have difficulty managing their time and commitment.
